Steve Liddle is the Western Isles Woodland Project Officer with the Council and has recently moved into a satellite office in the Old School at Achmore. The Connected Communities Broadband service was already working when he moved in and he said: "I recently moved up from Harris where I'd been using a slow dial-up link. The COnnected Communities broadband link enables me to use the Forestry Commission Landsearch database which is hosted on the mainland. This used to be a slow process but it's much easier and more reliable now. I need to send a lot of emails on consultations back and forth from colleagues, often with large file attachments such as maps and photographs. Of course other users with broadband don't bother compressing files anymore so it's essential to have it here too. I'd certainly recommend the service to other remote workers."

The recently refurbished office environment is a great place to work, with plenty of space and a rural setting, but it couldn't have been used without a fast broadband connection. The use of a wireless hub means that internal data cabling is kept to a minimum and workstations can be easily moved around.
